Our School's Flag-guards Participated in the Sister School Exchange Programme 2026 – Nanjing Culture and Academic Exchange Tour

To deepen students' understanding of our nation's history and culture and to promote mutual understanding between young people in Hong Kong and the mainland, our school's flag-guards took part in the “Sister School Exchange Programme 2026 – Nanjing Culture and Academic Exchange Tour” from 14 to 17 May 2026. The team travelled to Nanjing for an in‑depth exchange with our sister school 'High School Affiliated to Nanjing University' there.

The tour was sponsored by the school, with the aim of enabling students to learn and grow through first‑hand experience, broaden their horizons, and cultivate patriotism and team spirit. The activities were rich and varied, including flag‑raising ceremony exchanges, observation of recess exercises, interactive physical education lessons, and historical and cultural site visits.

FlagRaising Ceremony Exchange Demonstrating Discipline and Bearing

During the exchange, our school's flag-guards and the national flag guard of the sister school held a solemn and grand flag‑raising ceremony display. Following their respective protocols, both teams presented the entire flag‑raising process, observing and learning from each other. After the display, our students and teachers delivered a “speech under the national flag,” sharing thoughts on patriotism and the responsibilities of young people, which drew warm applause from the teachers and students present.

The team members said that this exchange allowed them to see different marching and flag‑raising styles from another school, broadening their perspectives and enhancing their own professional skills. One participating student remarked, “Being able to represent our school and exchange flag‑raising experiences with mainland students is a rare honour, and it has deepened my appreciation of the solemn meaning of raising the flag.”

Observing Recess Exercises and Experiencing Table Tennis Instruction

Apart from the flag‑raising ceremony exchange, our teachers and students also observed the sister school's recess exercises. The perfectly synchronised movements and vibrant atmosphere left a deep impression on the students. Later, everyone took part in a table tennis instruction session during a PE class, practising skills together with local students. From listening to explanations, watching demonstrations and videos, to gripping the racket, serving, and rallying, the students from both places grew closer in a relaxed and joyful interaction. Laughter and sweat intertwined, demonstrating the power of sports to build friendship.

Exploring the Ancient Capital of Jinling – Experiencing Chinese Culture

The exchange group also enjoyed a rich cultural itinerary, visiting historical and cultural landmarks such as the Niushoushan Cultural Park, Dr. Sun Yat‑sen's Mausoleum, the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders, and the Nanjing Museum. Through these walks, the students experienced the depth and warmth of Chinese civilisation. From reflecting on history to looking toward the future, they not only deepened their understanding of China's development but also strengthened their sense of national pride.

Broadening Horizons, Caring for the Nation

This Nanjing Culture and Academic Exchange Tour not only enhanced the students' professional competence in flag‑raising ceremonies but also taught them respect, collaboration, and responsibility through interaction. One participating student said, “Being able to have PE class and play table tennis with mainland students, I felt their enthusiasm and earnestness. This exchange will stay with me for life.”

Our school will continue to actively participate in the Sister School Exchange Programme, encouraging students to understand the nation's development from multiple perspectives, pass on Chinese culture, and practice the educational philosophy of “Become a Responsible and Collaborative Community”.
